Announcing 2nd Grand Prix of World Ballet Competitions, the World
Ballet Competition, Orlando, Florida
ORLANDO, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/25/07 -- The Orlando/Peabody
Alliance for the Arts and Culture (OPAAC) supports the 2008 World
Ballet Competition which will be held in Orlando, May 26 - 31, 2008
under the auspices of its founder/director, Central Florida Ballet's
general director, Vasile Petrutiu. "The Peabody Orlando has been
actively promoting the performing arts in Orlando for the past ten
years through OPAAC," said Alan C. Villaverde, executive vice
president, Peabody Hotels. "Vasile Petrutiu has received the OPAAC
Award of Excellence for his enormous contribution to the elevation of
classical ballet and dance in our community."
Petrutiu's mission is to establish the World Ballet Competition as
the premier international dance competition in the world. The
competitions are adjudicated by major international dance critics and
will be broadcast to all participating countries with combined global
internet and TV audiences of millions and are open to young, aspiring
dancers -- and professionals from around the world.
Categories include preparatory, professional, solo, pas de deux,
ensemble, and choreography. Over $100,000 in cash, scholarships, gift
certificates and dance merchandise are to be won, ranging from
$10,000
grand prix, $5,000 for gold medal, $3,000 silver and $2,000 bronze.
Applicants should visit www.wbcorlando.com to view requirements for
submitting applications and to print application forms. Completed
forms should be accompanied by one DVD or VHS tape, US $50 audition
fee, and a recent photocopy of passport or birth certificate. This
viewing material must have been filmed within eight months prior to
application and portray the dancer in class attire or performance.
In competition, applicants may only use costume or class attire.
The World Ballet Competition is poised to become an important fixture
on Orlando's annual calendar of events, bringing hundreds of dancers
and their families from all over the world to compete, win cash
and/or other prizes, and then to take time off to enjoy the Florida
sunshine and Orlando's world-famous theme parks and attractions.
