Nordea Jean Sibelius Orchestra formed to support young musicians
Nordea has entered an extensive cooperation agreement with Jean
Sibelius Marketing, the copyright proprietors of Jean Sibelius, to
train students of classical music. Nordea supports gifted young
students of music by setting up Nordea Jean Sibelius Orchestra in
honour of the master composer.
Young musicians will receive instruction under the leadership of top
Finnish classical music professionals and, above all, valuable
experience in playing with a full-ensemble symphony orchestra.
Conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste is the first artistic director of
Nordea Jean Sibelius Orchestra.
- Young gifted musicians need opportunities to play in big
orchestras. My first experiences of playing with a symphony orchestra
were so meaningful to me that I decided to study to become a
musician. I want to convey my own feelings to young musicians through
the Nordea Jean Sibelius Orchestra. I am glad to be involved in this
project, to support young people and make music with them, says
Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
The continuing agreement is important for Nordea, particularly as the
project reaches young people from all over the country.
- This orchestra is one of our main national sponsoring projects. It
is consistent with our mission "Making it possible". We have so far
supported young athletes, and now culture starts to go hand in hand
with sports. Nordea Jean Sibelius Orchestra consists of talented
students of classical music. The Orchestra will perform under
different ensembles in the bank's events, says Anne Lehmuskoski from
Nordea's Market Support.
This year Nordea will invite customers to eight Christmas concerts to
be played by a chamber orchestra ensemble in different parts of the
country, as well as the first festive concert of the orchestra. Young
musicians from local music academies will perform during this
national tour. The soloists of the Christmas concerts will be opera
singers Johanna Rusanen and Hannu Jurmu, with Juha Nikkola as
conductor.
Nordea Jean Sibelius Orchestra is an ambitious project. We are really
pleased that Nordea decided to join in as an open-minded cooperation
partner. This fine project also fits well with the values of the Jean
Sibelius trademark. It involves a great input in favour of young
musicians, says Jukka Jokinen, Managing Director of Jean Sibelius
Marketing. The company represents the heirs of Jean Sibelius in
commercial joint ventures.
