Western GeoPower Corp.: Mike Long Appointed Operations Manager

Western GeoPower Corp. (TSX VENTURE: WGP)(FRANKFURT: WE6.F), a renewable energy development company, today announced the appointment of Mike Long, MSc, PE as Operations Manager for its wholly-owned California subsidiary, Western GeoPower, Inc. In this position, Mr. Long will oversee the design and construction of the Western GeoPower Unit 1 power plant currently under development at The Geysers Geothermal Field in California and will provide technical support for Western GeoPower's future development efforts in California and other regions. Mr. Long brings extensive Geothermal Project Management experience to Western GeoPower, both domestically and abroad. He spent over fifteen years working for POWER Engineers, Inc., a world leader in the design and engineering of geothermal energy projects, where he held the position of Manager of Renewable Energy Projects. Since 2006, POWER Engineers has been providing Western GeoPower with initial design and engineering support for the Unit 1 project and Mr. Long was the Project Manager assigned by POWER Engineers to the project. During his term at POWER Engineers, Mr. Long served as the Engineering Project Manager for a series of large geothermal flash plant projects totaling more than 400 MWe in new capacity worldwide. These projects included Mindanao 1 and 2 (104 MWe) in the Philippines, Miravalles 3 (27 MWe) in Costa Rica, Cerro Prieto IV (100 MWe) in Mexico, Olkaria II (64MWe) in Kenya and Germencik (36 MWe) in Turkey. In addition, Mr. Long has been involved in numerous other geothermal development projects in the United States and overseas including innovative binary plant projects in Nevada. Prior to Mr. Long's involvement with POWER Engineers, he worked for Chevron in support of engineering and management of new projects in Africa and the USA. He holds a BSc from the Colorado School of Mines, an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado University, is a registered Professional Engineer and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Geothermal Energy Association.
