Locomotives to Be Deployed in Various European Freight Corridors
BERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwire - November 13, 2007) - Bombardier
Transportation has been awarded a contract for 9 BOMBARDIER TRAXX
locomotives by Veolia Cargo SAS. The total order, valued at around 34
million euros ($ 50 million US), includes an option to supply another
12 locomotives.
"For Bombardier, this order marks another milestone in both the
successful TRAXX story and its associated corridor strategy," said
Edmund Schlummer, President Locomotives, Bombardier Transportation,
"together, they open new market opportunities for our customers."
TRAXX locomotives are designed for freight and passenger transport
and can be operated on domestic routes and in international rail
transport. TRAXX is a family of locomotives comprising single- and
multi-system electric and diesel vehicles. A common feature of all
locomotives is their modular construction.
The locomotives will be powered by the renowned BOMBARDIER MITRAC
traction converters offering unmatched reliability. The related
control system is the sophisticated MITRAC TCMS offering safe and
energy efficient traction power for sustainable mobility. MITRAC
equipment has been selected for well over 3000 locomotives all around
the world. Furthermore, the locomotives will be equipped with
FlexiFloat bogies manufactured in Siegen, Germany.
The locomotives will be built at the Bombardier site in Kassel,
Germany. The plan is to deploy them in cross-border transport in
various European corridors, e.g. for Germany - Belgium - France and
Austria - Germany - Belgium - Netherlands.
To date, Bombardier has sold more than 1100 TRAXX locomotives to
various rail operators worldwide.
