Toyota has been a recognized leader in the production of the
gas/electric Hybrid vehicle for over 10 years and has sold over one
million Hybrid units. "An all-lithium version of the Yaris seemed
like a natural fit," stated Richard Griffiths, Strategic Development
Consultant for Hybrid Technologies.
The Yaris was selected for production of an all-lithium version based
on the following criteria:
-Body design and ergonomics
-Weight and size of vehicle
-Manufacture quality control
-Adaptation to electric drive system
-Consumer desirability
-Low entry-level unit cost (under $15,000 USD)
Holly Roseberry, President of Hybrid Technologies, Inc., stated: "As
Hybrid has a corporate mandate to keep our product line ahead of the
market and technology curve, we are pleased to have the Toyota Yaris
as a new venture for 2008. The Yaris embodies the key characteristics
our Federal and private consumers demand. The all-lithium Yaris will
clearly create a significant buzz once unveiled in 2008."
Hybrid Technologies originally developed a complete lithium system
for the PT Cruiser as part of a Space Act Agreement with NASA; it's
now one of the world's only production models of high-speed electric
vehicles. Due to its size and production cost the Toyota Yaris will
complement Hybrid's private and public sector offerings.
