Swiss Exhibition takes out a holding in the Basel and Miami Design

MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) Ltd. is taking out a 50% holding in
Design Miami Basel Ltd., which was set up in April 2007 to run Design
Miami Basel. At the same time, it is taking out a 10 percent holding
in Design Miami II, LLC - the company that organises Design Miami.
The two internationally leading Design shows were created by their
American event company in 2005 in Miami and 2006 in Basel. Since
then, they have been held in parallel with Art Basel Miami Beach and
Art Basel, both of which are organised by Swiss Exhibition.
The main reasons for Swiss Exhibition taking out a holding in the two
Design shows are the high growth potential of the market and the
synergies that exist between contemporary art and design. Major
overlaps are to be found in the key target groups - gallery owners,
collectors, media and sponsors. Swiss Exhibition can thus channel its
experience as the organiser of the world's leading art shows into the
new partnership, which will also benefit from Swiss Exhibition's
range of services in the fields of stand construction and event
technology.
In future, Swiss Exhibition will be involved both strategically and
operatively in the organisation of Design Miami Basel. The Board of
Directors will be comprised of René Kamm, CEO of Swiss Exhibition,
and Craig Robins, founder and, up until now, general owner of the
Design shows. The management will be made up of two representatives
of each of the partners.
"Taking out a holding in the Design shows constitutes a highly
attractive addition to our international exhibition portfolio",
explains René Kamm. "At the same time, we can have a say in the
positioning of the Design shows and in drawing the line between
design and art for purposes of the show. This will also further
consolidate our Art Basel and Art Basel Miami Beach."
