CBRail Orders 15 Bombardier TRAXX Locomotives for Cross-Border
Traffic
TRAXX Tackles the Corridor Germany-Austria-Hungary
BERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwire - November 26, 2007) - Today, Bombardier
announced the receipt of an order from CBRail for 15 BOMBARDIER(i)
TRAXX(i) freight locomotives. Ten of these locomotives will be
equipped with ETCS level 2. CBRail is a rolling stock leasing company
that is focused on providing customers with flexible, competitive yet
practical rolling stock operating leases for locomotives and
passenger trains in the European rail market. The current order,
including a combination of TRAXX AC and MS locomotives, is worth
approximately 57 million euros ($85 million US).
The new electric locomotives will run in cross-border traffic on
different European routes. Five locomotives are foreseen for the
corridor Germany-Austria-Hungary, five locomotives for the corridor
Germany-Austria-Switzerland and Italy, and the final five will travel
between Austria, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Final production of the multi-system and AC locomotives will take
place in Bombardier's Kassel plant. Bodyshells will be produced at
Bombardier's Wroclaw site in Poland, bogies in Siegen and the
Propulsion & Controls as well as Drives equipment manufactured at the
German sites in Mannheim and Hennigsdorf. The locomotives will be
powered by the BOMBARDIER(i) MITRAC(i)solution, offering proven
reliability and energy efficiency. The MITRAC Propulsion & Controls
equipment is the preferred solution by customers around the world and
has been selected for more than 3.200 locomotives.
Since 2006, CBRail has purchased a total of 61 TRAXX family
locomotives for pan-European freight transport. Edmund Schlummer,
