KONE wins an order for Portugal's biggest shopping mall
KONE Corporation, press release, March 18, 2008
KONE was awarded a contract to supply all elevators and escalators
for the new Dolce Vita Tejo shopping center near Lisbon in Portugal.
The project will form part of the largest commercial area in Portugal
and will set new standards for a next generation of shopping centers.
The Dolce Vita Tejo shopping mall will feature a gross rentable area
of 122,000 square meters and will count as Portugal's largest
shopping center once it is completed. The shopping center will have
300 stores, a giant hypermarket, a cinema complex and Portugal's
largest car park. It will also host Europe's first KidZania, a global
chain of entertainment and education centers for kids. The Dolce Vita
Tejo complex will be the first shopping center in the world to use
transparent roofing, similar to the one that was tested at
Bayern-Munich's new football stadium in Germany and at Eden Park, a
science park in London.
The order includes the delivery and installation of 22
machine-room-less KONE MonoSpace® elevators, 55 escalators and 24
ramps. Installation of the equipment is scheduled to begin in August
2008 and is estimated to be completed in April 2009.
The project is owned and developed by Chamartín Imobiliária in
partnership with ING Real Estate. Dolce Vita is a Chamartín Group
brand for shopping centers that combines leisure zones and business
opportunities.
