ASM INTERNATIONAL N.V. REPORTS PROGRESS ON SHARE BUY BACK PROGRAM

ALMERE, The Netherlands - May 9, 2012 - ASM International N.V. (NASDAQ: ASMI and Euronext Amsterdam: ASM) announces, further to the share buy back program announced on March 6, 2012, that during the period from May 2, 2012 until May 8, 2012, ASMI purchased 500,000 of its shares at an average price of EUR 26.72 per share. The total number of shares repurchased under this program to date is 500,000 common shares for a total consideration of EUR 13.4 million. ASM International announced on March 6, 2012, that it will repurchase up to 2 million common shares to cover outstanding personnel options.
